When you shift, everything shifts.
Sejal Shah is a parent educator, mother of five, and certified yoga instructor with a Master’s in Education. Her work bridges child development, Montessori principles, multicultural and bilingual identity development, and the embodied awareness that comes from ongoing practice — both on and off the mat.
Everything she shares, she has lived — in her kitchen, her garden, her laundry room, and on her mat. She knows what it feels like to do everything for your children. And she knows what it feels like when you finally learn to pause — and watch them rise.
At the heart of her work is advocacy for the child. Sejal truly believes that when the parent transforms, the child transforms. The preparation of the adult is not a one-time event — it happens in everyday life. It is a conscious, daily practice. We owe it to our children to show up with intention, not perfection. Every adult interacting with a child has a responsibility to create an environment that allows that child to thrive — building their confidence, honoring their independence, and empowering them to become who they are meant to be.
This work is equitable. You don’t need shiny materials, expensive tools, or a Pinterest-perfect home to be a better parent. You need awareness, intention, and the willingness to practice — and that is something every family already has access to. As a parent educator, Sejal Shah helps families do exactly that through The Pause Practice — because when the adult pauses and steps back, the child is able to step forward.
There is a series of photos she keeps. Her son at barely one year old, standing on a small stool, placing his own shirt into the washer. At two and three, moving clothes to the dryer while his baby siblings watched. By five, sorting laundry became his own game — matching colors, racing the timer, making it fun. Today — at twelve — laundry has become a weekly rhythm he shares with his younger siblings, something they do together.
Sejal Shah, Parent Educator — Grounded in Equity.
Her work is grounded in equity. Independence does not depend on expensive materials or a perfect home. It depends on intention in everyday moments — and that is something every family already has.
The Pause Practice grew from this belief — that when adults become more aware, grounded, and intentional, children develop the confidence, capability, and belonging they need to thrive.
Sejal holds a Master’s in Education with a focus on Montessori philosophy and multicultural identity development. She is a registered yoga instructor (RYT 200) and founder of Bolo Bolo Baby, a South Asian language and culture resource for families. Her research explored how bilingual and bicultural children develop identity and belonging — themes that continue to shape her work with families today.
